I finally had time to photograph the star-burst mirror I made a few months ago. I'm over all satisfied with the results. My only regret is using Gorilla Glue.... Oh boy. I was looking for something that would stick and I heard Gorilla Glue was pretty powerful stuff. Unfortunately I had never used it before and probably should have tested it before beginning this project. Well for those of you that don't know, Gorilla glue EXPANDS. So when trying to glue the bamboo spears on the backside, it puffed up and moved all of them! I had to hold it down for hours, because it kept expanding... it was a nightmare. The back looks horrible.
BUT the front is exactly what I wanted. And instead of $400 I spent a total of $20! I'm still unsure on whether I want to keep it white or paint it GOLD.
Unfortunately I don't have exact steps, because I basically just winged it. But I can give you a list of supplies and a general Idea.
1. Round mirror
2. Round wood frame
3. Bamboo spears ( Commonly used for kabobs, you probably just have them in your kitchen)
4.Glue (NOT GORILLA GLUE)
5. High gloss spray paint
I Started by gluing 4 spears onto the back of my wood frame at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 O'clock positions.
Then I positioned 4 or 5 in between at different lengths that I liked and glued them in place.
(Then I waited forever for the glue to stop expanding BLEH)
After that I spray painted the entire piece and glued the mirror in place.
